Intelligent Monitoring and Cleaning System: Advancing Healthcare Digitalization

The digital transformation in healthcare represents one of the greatest scientific challenges of the 21st century. Global challenges in the healthcare sector have been steadily increasing in recent years, leading to skyrocketing costs and declining patient care. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the vulnerability of healthcare supply chains to outbreaks and the necessity for traceability of cleaning and hygiene processes. Therefore, the “ImproClean” consortium, consisting of Gebrüder Heyl Vertriebsgesellschaft für innovative Wasseraufbereitung mbH, GERA-IDENT GmbH, STATCON GmbH, and Hohenstein Institut für Textilinnovation gGmbH, has set out to develop an efficient, intelligent, and digital monitoring system for hygiene and cleaning. The project began on 01.02.23 and is funded for two years by ZIM and BMWK.

Innovative quality assurance concepts in cleaning and hygiene can contribute effectively to addressing challenges such as skilled labor shortages, pandemic control, and nosocomial infections. Through the collaboration of companies and research institutions with comprehensive expertise, an innovative technological platform for intelligent monitoring of cleaning and hygiene measures in healthcare is being created. The innovation includes building sensor networks for monitoring media quality and surface-related parameters using multi-parameter RFID sensors with intelligent limit monitoring, developing soft sensors for hygiene and cleaning performance, and designing and developing AI-based cloud applications. These steps aim to digitize cleaning and hygiene processes in healthcare and beyond.
