Project in an eye clinic in the greater Hannover area
Eye Clinic Project in the Greater Hanover Area
In the vicinity of AEMPs and large clinics, sterilization of medical equipment is crucial for smooth operation, protection of instruments used, and patient safety.
In mid-December 2021, Gebrüder Heyl Vertriebsgesellschaft was commissioned to promptly identify the cause of a malfunctioning water treatment system in an ophthalmic group practice in the Greater Hanover area.
With 9 resident doctors in the clinic and the necessity to ensure treatment and care for patients at all times, urgent action was required.
During the technical assessment, it was found that a booster pump was causing the issue. Simultaneously, a targeted on-site analysis of relevant water parameters and equipment used revealed that the existing system did not provide the required quality of ultrapure water for downstream processes and treatments.
Based on our experts’ recommendation, a mixed bed with highly sensitive monitoring was installed as a temporary solution, meeting current requirements. This quickly restored the necessary supply security.
Following the inventory, it was decided to implement the concept immediately. Alongside a system tailored entirely to the needs of the eye clinic, the latest monitoring technologies were integrated. This includes highly precise conductivity monitoring, UV disinfection with circulation via the storage tank, and the Testomat® 808 SiO2 for continuous monitoring of silica content in ultrapure water according to the recommendations of the Instrument Processing Working Group (AKI). Silicate deposits pose a risk to the entire process and are difficult to remove, negatively impacting the lifespan of instruments.
In mid-February 2022, the technical installation was carried out in collaboration with our service partner, and the new system was operational within a day to ensure smooth operation of the eye clinic.
The already installed mixed bed cartridges were retained as a safety reserve for potential maintenance work in the system.
Overall, not only was the initial problem resolved, but a modern concept was implemented in a short period, emphasizing economic benefits and prioritizing patient safety. Water treatment in sensitive areas always requires special attention, as even small amounts of improperly treated water can have significant consequences.
Due to the professional and prompt implementation, the eye clinic decided to entrust maintenance of the system to the experts.
